Under-strength Westcombe crash out of Trophy

Westcombe Park 3 Halifax 41

WESTCOMBE Park crashed out of the National Trophy at the third round stage on Saturday.

Combe were missing many of their regular starters and it showed as visitors Halifax put seven tries past them to progress to the next stage.

Both sides had to put up with torrential weather conditions at Goddington Dene.

Paul Trendell scored Combe’s only points of the match as he kicked over a penalty and the first half ended with just five points separating the sides as Halifax led 8-3.

Halifax completely dominated the second half, however, and their strong pack ran over their inexperienced opponents and scored another 33 points.
