Welling aiming for play-off positions

Dorchester v Welling

Welling travel to lowly Dorchester on Saturday aiming to break into the Blue Square South play-off places.

A four-game unbeaten run in the league has left Andy Ford’s side sitting just a point off the play-off positions in ninth position.

“We’re handily placed and we just need to push on now and get into the play-off places rather than outside them,” said Ford.

The Wings boss knows that, with a game against leaders Chelmsford coming up next week, points on Saturday are vital.

Ford said: “If we draw we do lose ground and we now we need three points really.

“Next week’s game against Chelmsford will be really tough and although I’ll be looking for six points from those two games I would accept four.”

Ford will include new signing Adam Burchell on the bench after the Gillingham youth striker joined the club on work experience.

“He’ll offer us something from the bench,” said Ford. “He won’t feature from the start as I don’t think he’s old enough or strong enough but we’ll have a little look at him.”

Ford has Loui Fazakerley (dead leg) and Jack Parkinson (cup-tied) back in the side on Saturday. His side have been coping with a number of missing players recently.

“We’ve been down to the bare bones,” said Ford. “We’ve had a 16-year-old on the bench and two 18-year-olds playing and that makes our recent achievements over the last three weeks even better.”

Bromley will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s cup disappointment with a home game against Thurrock.

Mark Goldberg’s side lost their FA Trophy third qualifying round tie on Saturday to Swindon Supermarine.

They resume their Blue Square South duties this Saturday where they have been enjoying much better form.

The Lillywhites have won their last three league matches and sit tenth in the league.

Saturday’s opponents sit just below them in 14th and they have also won their last three league matches - scoring 11 in the process and conceding none.

Goldberg will have to make at least one change this Saturday as Mark Corneille will be suspended following his sending off against Swindon.
