Westcombe triumph in big derby clash

Blackheath 19 Westcombe Park 34

WESTCOMBE Park secured a 34-19 win over local rivals Blackheath at the Rectory Field in National League 2 on Saturday.

Combe started strongly and opened the scoring when centre Peceli Nacamavuto spotted a gap which he sailed through to score near the posts. Fly-half Paul Trendell added the extras.

Park were then dealt a blow when Gideon Roux was sent-off for stamping.

The visitors were forced to regroup and eventually regained the upper hand when captain Tom Hayman went over for Combe's second try.

Jacobus Du Toit added Combe's third try as the away side took a 17-0 lead into half-time.

In the second half, Combe extended their lead when Trendell chipped the ball forward from 20 metres out allowing Lee Campion to pluck the ball out of the air and go over in the corner. Trendell converted.

Blackheath then got their first score of the game when scrum-half Harvey Biljon touched down at the end of a long driving maul on 54 minutes. The try was converted.

Ranako Daley then set up a score for himself with a storming break from defence. Any hopes of a Blackheath comeback were all but over just three minutes later when Combe's Trendell kicked a penalty.

Blackheath added a penalty try which was converted before Combe's Nacamavuto sent his centre partner Tom Loizides in for the final score. Trendell converted.
