School children have celebrated achievements in green travel and reading at an awards ceremony.

Classes that were top or most improved for reading or walking to school attended an awards celebration at Leeds Castle this week. The winning classes beat hundreds of others at a KM Challenge Day held in October.

The winning classes were presented with free entry tickets to Leeds Castle, which class representatives received at the awards event.

Carl Quinnell from Bel UK said: "It's great to help Kent children celebrate their achievements in walking to school and in reading. We are very proud to support this KM community campaign. "

The class representatives were equally as enthusiastic about the schemes and the benefits of reading.

Hapsah Jan, from Kingsnorth Primary School, said: "I like reading because it can keep you entertained for a long time and I think it's good to do rather than having your nose two inches from a screen. You can learn new vocabulary and have fun at the same time."

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said: "It is always inspiring to meet the children making such a success of our walk to school, road safety and literacy schemes."

The initiatives are supported by Leeds Castle, Kent Reliance, Eurostar, Orbit, 3Rs teacher recruitment, Kent County Council, Medway Council, Bel UK, Volker Highways, Countrystyle Recycling, and Golding Homes.
