Rotary members in the county town have joined the KM Year of Reading Campaign.

The Maidstone Riverside Club has donated £250 to enable a primary school to use the popular reading scheme Buster’s Book Club.

Rotary members Carolyn Bassett and club President Steve Elms selected Barming Primary School to receive their subsidy.

Simon Dolby, Chief Executive of the KM Charity Team, attended the club to personally thank Rotary members and to brief them on the progress of the campaign.

Mr Dolby said: “I am so grateful for the enthusiasm and support of Maidstone Riverside Rortary Club. I very much hope other Rotary clubs in the county will follow their lead and also sponsor a local primary school to join Buster’s Book Club and be part of KM’s Year of Reading.”

Rotary stage a number of initiatives that compliment KM’s literacy campaign including a public speaking competition and the Young Writer competition.
