A lorry carrying rubbish has gone up in flames on the M25 in Kent this afternoon.

The anti-clockwise carriageway between J6 (Godstone) and J5 (M26/A21) was blocked after the blaze.

Delays built as crews battled the fire, which broke out in the roadworks near Westerham at around 2.25pm.

The refuse lorry was carrying waste paper and cardboard.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it sent three crews and a water unit to the scene.

All traffic was held while firefighters tackled the lorry, which was on fire on the hard shoulder.

Two lanes re-opened at about 3.40pm, but congestion remained as traffic snaked past the scene.
