School children from across Maidstone, Malling and the Weald compete in the annual Inter-Primary School Maths Competition

When children from 30 primary schools descended on Oakwood Park Grammar School, Maidstone, this week, it all added up to a good day.

The pupils were taking part in the annual Inter-Primary School Maths Competition.

The teams of four Year 5

pupils were set a number of maths-based problems to solve, culminating in a relay contest.

Every child who took part was given a ruler and pencil to take home, but it was the team from Bearsted’s Roseacre Junior School which also carried off the winner’s trophy.

Maths teacher Debbie Robertson said: “It was a very exciting day and we’ve had many messages from the school heads to say how much their children enjoyed it.”
