Lorry driver arrested on suspicion of being four times the legal limit after crashing into a street lamp on the A229 at Blue Bell Hill

A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving at almost four times the legal alcohol limit after his vehicle ploughed into a streetlamp on Blue Bell Hill.

The crash happened on the Maidstone-bound A229 just before 11am. While there were no reported injuries, the 54-year-old driver was taken into police custody where he remains.

The road was clear shortly after midday.

Kent Special Constabulary posted images of the damage caused in the crash on their Twitter account.

They said: "The HGV driver who caused this at Blue Bell Hill is now in custody on suspicion of driving at nearly 4x the alcohol limit #SCRPU"
