Connor Sharp charged with affray after incident at Ashes Sports Bar in Maidstone

A reveller has appeared in court, accused of throwing wooden chairs and a can of hairspray at a bouncer while yelling "Brexit is coming, go back to your own country".

Connor Sharp was charged with affray, obstructing and resisting a police constable and possessing an offensive weapon following the scuffle on a night out in Maidstone.

Magistrates heard the 20-year-old, along with co-accused Brandon Strotten, was drinking in The Ashes Sports Bar in Market Buildings in the early hours of Sunday, November 25.

Staff later asked the pair to leave the venue, but they instead became aggressive and violent, allegedly hurling racial slurs at a doorman, Maidstone Magistrates Court was told.

Sharp, of Linkway, Ditton, is also said to have shouted at the bouncer: "Brexit is coming, go back to your own country", at which point the police were called.

Sharp then picked up a number of items including wooden chairs from outside the bar and even a can of hairspray, and threw them at the man, magistrates heard.

He is also said to have pushed over railings and had to be restrained by staff until officers arrived.

In the dock, Sharp withheld entering a plea as the solicitor representing him had not yet seen mobile phone footage of the incident.

He was bailed to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on January 25.

Strotten, 22, of Maidstone Road, Ashford previously pleaded guilty to affray but denied possessing an offensive weapon.

He was bailed to appear at the same court on February 1.
