Broken down lorry causes traffic problems on A20 by New Cut Road, Maidstone

Drivers are being told to expect "mayhem" on a busy route after a lorry broke down at a junction.

Police are at the scene on the A20 at New Cut Road, Maidstone after being called at around 11.30am

Reports from social media users suggested the HGV had ploughed into a set of traffic lights but a Kent Police spokesperson confirmed there had been no collision.

They added that the incident was likely to cause "mayhem" for traffic in the area for at least the next hour.

The Ashford-bound carriageway is currently closed to traffic while arrangements are being made to recover the vehicle.

Motorists are being advised to find alternative routes.
