Maidstone youngster's impressive stamina helps cancer sufferers

Nine-year-old Bryony Dhanecha has run 100 miles to fight cancer - though gratefully no all in one go.

The Maidstone youngster has been totting up the miles in stages over the past month, but she passed the finishing line to mark the completion of her 100-mile distance at Leybourne Lakes on Saturday.

She has raised more than £2,000 through sponsorship for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In a sad twist to life, Bryony who took up the challenge simply to help others, learned halfway through her schedule that he own grandmother, Jackie Regan, whom she calls Nana, had been diagnosed with cancer.

Her father Jay Dhanecha said: “She’s been running two or three miles every day, more at weekends.

“It started out as a challenge from her brother Anton. He told her, I bet you can’t run 100 miles in a month, and she said, I bet I can.”

Both children train with the Ocean Lakes Triathlon Club based at Leybourne.

Mr Dhanecha said: “Her mother and I told her if she were going to do it, she should try to raise money for a good cause and she chose Macmillan.”
