Gillingham woman posed as charity worker to burgle Maidstone pensioner's home

A pensioner was tricked into letting a burglar into her home after she pretended to be a charity worker.

Manuella Paun, 19, told a pensioner she was collecting for a deaf children's charity, when she tricked her way inside the elderly woman's home in January.

Paun, of Toronto Road, Gillingham, knocked at the pensioner's home in Sussex Road, Maidstone, on January 26.

After Paun had left, the woman discovered three pieces of jewellery were missing from her bedroom, including a pendant.

She called the police and plain clothed officers spotted Paun near Plains Avenue and she was arrested on suspicion of burglary after officers found she was carrying the pendant.

On Monday, February 26, Paun appeared at Maidstone Crown Court and pleaded guilty to burglary.

She was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.

Another woman was also charged in connection with the offence and appeared at the same court on the same day and was also remanded in custody.

Lacramioara Stan , 19, also of of Toronto Road, Gillingham, pleaded not guilty to burglary and the case against her was adjourned until July.
