Calf rescued from River Medway at Barming near Maidstone

A calf which got itself stuck in a river has been rescued.

The six-month-old was so cold after being pulled from the water that it would not stand but fortunately was uninjured.

The Kent Fire and Rescue Animal Rescue Unit were called to a section of the River Medway near Barming shortly before 4pm yesterday.

Crews managed to reach the calf by boat and led it up the river to a point where he could be strapped up and pulled onto the bank by hand.

The rescue took just under two hours and the calf was returned to its owner.
