Maidstone: Long delays after car crash in Lower Stone Street

A two-car crash in Maidstone sparked traffic chaos this morning.

Emergency services were called to the collision, which happened in Lower Stone Street near the junction with Knightrider Street at 6.20am.

The road was closed for about 90 minutes while the cars were recovered and a man in his 40s was treated at the scene but did not need to be taken to hospital.

Motorists have reported gridlock on town centre routes, including the one-way system, Tonbridge Road and Sittingbourne Road.

There are also queues on Detling Hill and Royal Engineers Way, as well as around Shepway and Bearsted.

Arriva is also reporting delays.

A police spokesman said: "One lane is blocked and the highways authority has been called to remove an oil spill."
