Jazza Smith handed community order after fight at Kent Garden Show, Detling Showground

A catering boss has been slapped with a community order after repeatedly punching an exhibitor at a flower show.

Jazza Smith saw red after a row erupted over a phone charger which was plugged into a communal plug at the Kent Garden Show at Detling Showground in May.

The 28-year-old, from Hampshire, lashed out at Anthony Lyle, whose stand was next to Smith’s, after he began charging his phone.

During the scuffle Smith punched Mr Lyle in the face a number of times, eventually being restrained by other exhibitors.

Mr Lyle was left with a black eye and a bruised cheek.

Smith initially claimed he was acting in self-defence but changed his plea on the day he was due to stand trial for assault at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court last month.

Magistrates ordered him to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work, 30 days of rehabilitation sessions and pay Mr Lyle £300 in compensation.

Smith must also pay £170 in costs.
