Funeral of Cllr Peter Parvin who represented Leeds on Maidstone Council is held at All Saints Church

Mourners turned out for the funeral of Peter Parvin, a former Mayor of Maidstone.

Cllr Parvin of Meadow Walk, Maidstone, had represented Leeds Ward for the Conservative Party on Maidstone Borough Council for almost 20 years, having been first elected in May 1995.

He was Mayor of Maidstone in 2009.

A service at All Saints Church in Maidstone saw Maidstone and the Weald MP Helen Grant attend, alongside Hugh Robertson who represents Faversham and Mid Kent.

They were joined by many of Cllr Parvin's council colleagues.

The service was taken by Rev Ian Parrish and Cllr Parvin's grandson's Benjamin Hawkins and Peter Parvin Jnr delivered readings.

Cllr Parvin, who was 80, sat on several council committees including licensing and also dealt with planning matters and had enjoyed careers in the Met Police and in the RAF.

He passed away in January and had been suffering from cancer.

Last September Cllr Parvin, of Meadow Walk, Maidstone, celebrated his diamond wedding anniversary with his wife Daphne, also a borough councillor and former Mayor.

After moving to Maidstone in 1984 they managed a nursing home in Buckland Road for three years before relocating to Caring Lane, in Leeds, where they ran a farm and the Caring for Cats cattery.

Cllr Parvin leaves his wife, daughter Gaye, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
