Part of a Maidstone road has been closed for emergency gas works.

A lane of Loose Road was shut just before 12pm yesterday, after SGN engineers were called to a house there.

It is unlikely to reopen until this evening, while they work to restore the gas supply to the property.

Spokesman for SGN, Claire Buchanan, said: "We expect our engineering works to be completed this evening.

"Reinstatement of the road surface will then be carried out and we anticipate that all being well the lane closure will be removed late tomorrow afternoon, once the road surface has hardened.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank road users for their continued patience while we complete our works."
