Listed monument damaged by Urban Blue Bus in Maidstone

A Grade II listed statue has been left damaged after it was struck by a volunteer-run community double decker

The Queen Victoria Monument, in Jubilee Square, Maidstone, was hit by the Urban Blue Bus as it reversed at about 8pm on Saturday.

One of the stone structure's four lamps was knocked off its post. The lantern was still covered in police tape this morning.

The bus is usually parked in the High Street area on Friday and Saturday nights.

Its team of volunteers offers medical support to vulnerable people, such as clubbers who have had too much to drink.

Paul Alcock, chairman of Maidstone Town Centre Management, said the collision was an "unfortunate accident".
