Police appeal after woman from Maidstone dies in M20 crash

A 74-year-old woman has died and a lorry driver has been arrested after a crash in the early hours of this morning.

The accident, involving a red Nissan Qashqai and a red Mercedes articulated lorry, happened just after 5am on junction 7 of the M20 - closing the road in both directions.

A 39-year-old man from the Czech Republic was arrested and has since been bailed pending further enquiries until March 6.

Emergency services were called but the woman was confirmed dead at the scene. Her next of kin has been informed.

The carriageway was closed in both directions following the accident, but reopened after investigations were complete.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Investigating officer DS Scott Lynch from the serious collision investigation unit said: "I would like to thank the witnesses who have come forward already.

"If there are people who saw either vehicle before the collision, I would urge them to contact us."
