Motorists experienced long delays on the M25 this morning after an accident left three lanes closed.

Two lanes were closed anti-clockwise between junctions 5 and 4 and one lane was closed clockwise to allow barrier repairs to be carried out.

A lorry crossed the central reservation from the anticlockwise carriageway to the other side at around 4am.

All lanes had reopened by 7.40am but lengthy queues remained until around 8.30am.

Congestion has now cleared.
