Maidstone boss Jay Saunders has called on the club’s supporters to drive them to success this season.

The Stones host Walton & Hersham on Saturday in Ryman League Division 1 South in what will be the club’s first competitive game in the town for 24 years.

Thousands of fans have passed through the turnstiles at the £2.6million Gallagher Stadium to see Maidstone take on the likes of Brighton, Dagenham and Leyton Orient in pre-season friendlies on their 3G pitch.

"The fans can be a big help by generating a good atmosphere and getting behind the boys," said Saunders (pictured).

“The fans can be a big help too by generating a good atmosphere and getting behind the boys.

“There’s been so much interest around the town. Everyone I speak to it’s ‘Maidstone, Maidstone, Maidstone’.

“It’s driving my wife mad but it’s great to be a part of it!"

Winger Sam Bewick has been handed a four-match ban after his red card in the friendly against AFC Hornchurch a fortnight ago. But it won’t take effect until August 25, meaning he will be available for the first two games of the
season.

Saunders is likely to choose between Bewick and teenager Kaiyne Woolery but striker Ian Draycott (ankle) is ruled out, with Shaun Welford and Paul Booth favourites to start up front.
