Police and ambulance crews in Sittingbourne Road, Maidstone

A road has re-opened after being closed to allow police and paramedics to deal with a medical emergency.

Kent Police, ambulance crews and the fire service were called just after 11.30am to Sittingbourne Road.

The road was partially blocked at the junction with Holland Road while paramedics treated a woman. She was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford in a critical condition.

The footpath was also cordoned off by police to stop pedestrians approaching the area, but has now been re-opened.

Motorists were being advised to avoid the area but delays have begun to clear.
