Shepway: Park off Cumberland Avenue, Maidstone cordoned off by police with sniffer dogs

A park in Shepway has been cordoned off by police investigating a serious sexual assault on a man.

There is a large police presence at the recreation ground, which is flanked by Cumberland Avenue, Owletts Close and Kings Reach, following the incident which is said to have taken place between 7pm and 8.25pm yesterday.

A man in his 40s is reported to have been attacked.

Officers understand a group of men were in the area at the time and would like to speak with them as part of their enquiries, as well as anyone else who was in the vicinity.

They would also like to make contact with a man and a woman who offered to help the man as he walked past some shops in Deringwood Drive, Downswood, after the incident.

They were walking a small white dog at the time.

It is thought police arrived shortly after midnight and officers with sniffer dogs have been searching the area. Forensics teams have also reportedly arrived this morning.
