Coombe Road fire: Cat needed oxygen and occupants needed rehoming after Maidstone flat fire

Those inside a Maidstone flat needed rehoming and a cat was given oxygen therapy after a blaze broke out.

Firefighters were called to the fire in Coombe Road at 5.30am today.

The cat was given oxygen through a specialist pet mask and crews wore breathing apparatus in the heavily smoke-logged flat.

The British Red Cross Emergency Support Unit was called to help out the occupants, who will need rehoming.

It's believed the fire started when an oven was left on, and a nearby mop caught fire.

It is believed that a build-up of grease on the cooker is thought to have ignited and spread to the kitchen.
