Maidstone: Police called to serious incident in High Street

Police cordoned off part of Maidstone High Street last night in an ongoing investigation more than 36 hours after an assault.

An officer at the scene told KentOnline work was underway to preserve forensic evidence following an incident in the early hours of Sunday.

Police tape has been put up around the British Heart Foundation charity shop and old Barclays branch.

The initial incident took place in Rose Yard - the alleyway between High Street and Earl Street - before moving into the High Street.

Two men in their 20s were taken to hospital by Secamb crews at the time with what is reported to be head injuries.

Detectives have also been seen searching Rose Yard.

A police spokesman said enquiries led forensic officers to set up a scene in the High Street at 5.30pm today, which was removed at 7.56pm.

Kent Police said inquiries are ongoing.
