Eight uninsured vehicles seized by police in Maidstone since start of January

Eight vehicles stopped and found to be uninsured have been seized by police in Maidstone since the start of the year.

The Community Safety Unit stopped drivers in a range of vehicles, including a Ford Transit in Station Road, Headcorn on January 17, a Fiat Punto in Romney Place on January 18 and a Mercedes 220 in Mill Street on January 22.

Inspector Giacomino Vail said in some instances the uninsured drivers were found to have committed additional driving offences.

He added: "When the town centre team are on patrol responding to incidents of crime and disorder, they are always alert for drivers who are committing road traffic offences and potentially endangering others.

"Some of the uninsured drivers have also been reported for offences including driving without a licence and failing to stop at a red traffic light.

"Law abiding road users and pedestrians are put at unnecessary risk by those who flout the law and we are committed to repeatedly targeting these drivers to make the roads safer.

"Our message is simple, if you drive uninsured be prepared to have your vehicle seized and face a significant fine."
