Maidstone: Experts predict River Medway flooding amid heavy rain

A warning has been issued as the River Medway is expected to burst its banks amid heavy rain.

The Environment Agency has sent out flood alerts to people living in the Maidstone area and close to the River Medway up to Yalding.

Following rainfall on Boxing Day evening, the EA noticed a rise in river levels and they expect levels to reach their highest this afternoon.

Footpaths and low lying land close to the river channel could see some flooding and this is most likely to happen between 2pm and 6pm today.

Despite the warnings, experts expect the river levels to fall overnight and they do not believe any property is set to be affected by flooding.

The EA has also confirmed they are continuing to monitor the levels and officers are currently out on the ground and are ready to clear any blockages.
