A229 Loose Road in Maidstone closed due to crash

A crash closed a main road in Maidstone this morning, causing long rush hour delays.

The accident involving a car and a cyclist in his 40s happened on the north-bound A229 Loose Road, near the junction with Plains Avenue, just before 7.30am.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics attended the scene and closed both carriageways. These have since reopened.

A police spokesman said:"At 7.28am on Friday 23 September, Kent Police received a report of a collision between a car and a cyclist on Loose Road, Maidstone at its junction with Plains Avenue.

"Police officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service went to the scene and both carriageways of Loose Road were closed between Plains Avenue and the junction with Sutton Road.

"The injured cyclist has been taken to a local hospital. Loose Road has been reopened and traffic is moving."
