Future Schools Trust Sixth Form based at Cornwallis and New Line Learning Academies in Maidstone set to open theatre

Future Schools Trust Sixth Form is set to put the spotlight on its performing arts department by opening an on-site theatre.

The sixth form, based at Cornwallis and New Line Learning Academies in Maidstone, plans to introduce a qualification focused on technical theatre when it opens its own venue in September 2016.

The performance space, which has been designed with help from industry experts, will be built within the trust’s existing buildings in Boughton Lane, Loose.

Future Schools Trust’s chief executive, Sir Nick Williams, brings a wealth of expertise to the project from his former role as Principal of The BRIT School, which counts Oscar winner Adele, Jessie J, Amy Winehouse, rap duo Rizzle Kicks and X Factor winner Leona Lewis as graduates.

Mr Williams said: “We are delighted to have this brilliant opportunity to introduce a new course and theatre space in Maidstone.

"The venue will offer excellent facilities for our students who want to be centre stage or learn about the theatre production from behind the scenes. It will give them the space to perform to audiences from the wider community."

Students interested in finding out more about the theatre and the other courses on offer are welcome to attend the Sixth Form open evening taking place tonight.

Subject leaders will be at New Line Learning Academy between 5pm and 7pm and from 6pm to 8pm at Cornwallis Academy.
