Stones snap up son of ex-player

MAIDSTONE United are expected to be bolstered by two new men in their Bass Brewers Kent League game at Thamesmead on Saturday. Twenty-one-year-old Simon Glover has joined the club from Welling and manager Jim Ward is negotiating for the signature of a former Dover central defender.

The versatile Glover, a left-sided wing back or winger, has been a target of of the club for some time. The son of former Maidstone and Welling defender John, he has played for Welling for the last three years. Stones will be without captain Paul Foley and Terry Cordice, but fellow defender Steve Coatham, who suffered a toe injury against Erith Town on Saturday, is expected to be fit as is midfield man Adrian Webster. Webster pulled out of the Erith game with a blistered heel just before the kick-off.

Left-back Jodie Kempster starts a five-week ban on Saturday after being sent off against Cray and on Monday he will be joined on the sidelines by striker Richard Sinden, who has been suspended for a similar period for being dismissed against Greenwich.

It will be the first of two trips to Thamesmead in three weeks for the Stones, who meet the Londoners in the League Cup on Saturday, November 24.

Strikers Dave Arter and Tunde Utsaja have both left the club. Veteran Arter only made two league starts this season as did ex-Chatham player Utsaja. Striker Steve Butler will be eligible for the FA Carlsberg Vase second game at Suffolk side Mildenhall Town on Saturday, November 10.

A coach will leave Archbishop's Palace, Maidstone at 11.30am. The cost is £7 50 and anybody wanting to travel should contact Tina Buckle on 01622 834845.
