Maidstone students urged to stay away from Brenchley Gardens after alleged incident yesterday afternoon

Pupils have been told to keep out of a park after reports a man was spotted with a knife.

Kent Police were called to Brenchley Gardens in Maidstone just before 2.30pm yesterday after reports of a man with a knife.

Police say no-one was threatened during the incident but enquiries are on-going.

Teachers at Oakwood Park Grammar School have told students to avoid the area.

A concerned parent, who wishes to remain anonymous, has got in touch with the Kent Messenger who alleges the incident was actually very different.

"My 12-year-old son was involved in that incident, and there three men wearing hoodies, all of them had knives," he said.

He added: "One of them walked up to my son and said 'you're crazy', and then they chased after my son and his friends."

Although the school said in its newsletter that there was only one man, he disputes this claim.

"I'm not blaming the school for this incident, but Brenchley Gardens is notorious for people who are up to no good, so I don't know why the boys went there," the father said.

Kent Police has been approached for a comment.
