A pile-up involving three cars caused long delays on the A229 Blue Bell Hill this morning.

Police were called to the Maidstone-bound carriageway, near the Lower Bell pub on the Rochester Road turn off at 7.30am. The road was cleared at about 9.45am.

A witness told KentOnline that the queues went back as far as Medway.

Motorists vented their frustration on Twitter.

Andy Holmes tweeted: "If you're going to Maidstone don't use Blue Bell Hill. 30 mins and moved about half a mile."

Another said they had been delayed for up to 50 minutes and described the chaos as a nightmare.

One lane was closed, but there are no reports of any serious injuries.
