Maidstone United have completed the signing of in-demand striker Frannie Collin.

The 26-year-old turned down the chance to return to Dover Athletic and instead teams up with former Tonbridge Angels team-mate Lee Worgan at the Gallagher Stadium.

He said: "It’s a great opportunity, a massive club. They’re looking at getting crowds of 2,000 every week. That’s bigger than anything outside the Conference. In terms of the infrastructure, there’s nothing like it in part-time football.

"I’ve had a look around and the set-up is geared to playing at a much higher level. That’s something I want to be part of. I wanted a fresh challenge and this is such a big project."

Collin has been prolific in front of goal in recent seasons and his decision to join the Stones represents a significant transfer coup for manager Jay Saunders.

He started his career at Gillingham before joining Dover in 2007. Collin won back-to-back titles at Crabble, helping the Whites climb from Ryman League Division 1 South into Conference South.

After Dover lost to Woking in the 2009-10 play-offs, Collin left to sign for Tonbridge. There he was part of the Angels side which dramatically won promotion via the Ryman League Premier Division play-offs in 2010-11.

Collin bagged 29 goals to pick up the Golden Boot award the following season and he was also named Conference South player of the year. While the Angels only just staved off relegation last season, Collin finished with 18 league goals to his name.

Ade Olorunda, another of Collin’s former team-mates at Tonbridge, will not be at the Gallagher Stadium next season however.

He tweeted on Friday afternoon: "Great regret that I will have to leave Maidstone. This has nothing to do with Tim (his brother), but due to work and tax implication. Gutted, gave my all and would do it again. Thanks Jay and Wardy. No choice."
