Maidstone United midfielder Matt Bodkin makes loan move to Leatherhead

Maidstone winger Matt Bodkin has joined Leatherhead on loan for a month.

Bodkin was also given permission to speak to Ryman League promotion chasers Tonbridge but decided to link up with ex-Stones team-mates Steve Watt, Frannie Collin and Alex Brown at Fetcham Grove.

He has barely featured since losing his place to Vas Karagiannis and Maidstone manager Jay Saunders felt it would benefit him to go out on loan.

Saunders said: "Bods needs some games. We had a couple of phone calls, from Tonbridge and Leatherhead, and I left it up to him to make his mind up.

"He'll go out for a month, hopefully it'll do him good and we'll see where we are.

"The last couple of times he's come on he's looked a little off the pace, which you'd expect when he's not played for a good six weeks.

"He's a very fit lad but it doesn't matter who you are, it's the match fitness and sharpness.

"He doesn't want to be travelling around and sitting on the bench. He wants to play some games and it'll do him good to go and do that."
