Medway and Maidstone AC's Martin Brockman sets personal-best points tally to win the England Athletics Championships heptathlon title in Sheffield

Medway and Maidstone's Martin Brockman won gold in the 2015 England Athletics Championships heptathlon with a personal-best 5,601 points, writes Alan Newman.

Brockman’s journey through the seven events included lifetime bests at 60m hurdles (8.59sec) and 1,000m (2min42.02sec), as he added 99 points to his former best and put Alex Kruger’s 1993 national record (5,888) under pressure.

Dartford Harriers’ under-23 prospects, David Hall (5,267) and Tom Howlett (5,074), were fourth and sixth respectively among top-class senior opposition.

Lewis Church (Tonbridge) gained bronze in the men’s under-20 heptathlon with a personal-best 4,982. Church included new marks at 60m (7.58), 60m hurdles (8.66), pole vault (4.01m) and 1,000m (2.48.00) in his efforts.

Harry Kendall (Tonbridge) was eighth with 4,417 points and Jacob Lane (Dartford Harriers) 19th with 3,574 in this age group.
