Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders on Wrexham challenge

Jay Saunders says Maidstone’s home game against Wrexham will be a different challenge to Aldershot.

Tuesday night’s match against the Shots was as open as you’ll see in the National League but boss Saunders is expecting a tighter affair on Saturday as Stones go for their first win.

He changed shape for Aldershot, switching to a midfield diamond, and will now consider his approach for Wrexham.

Saunders said: “It’s a different sort of game.

“They’ll be a different side to what Aldershot are.

“All we can do now is plan for that and we’ll try and work out a way to go against them.

“We changed shape against Aldershot.

“I’m not a big fan of the diamond, I just felt it would frustrate them.

“I don’t think we get the best out Tom Wraight or Jack Paxman like that, although they worked their socks off.

“We’ll look at Wrexham and no doubt we’ll have to change things but it’s one we can look forward to.”

Jamar Loza saw a specialist yesterday and Saunders expects him to be out for a while yet but former West Ham man Zavon Hines could make his debut.

Stuart Lewis completes a three-match, while Alex Finney may return from a groin injury when Maidstone go to Tonbridge in Kent Senior Cup second round on Tuesday.

The sooner the injured players are back, the better.

Saunders said: “Our start’s been very difficult, there’s no doubt about it.

“It’s a horrible start but we’ve got to hang in there and once we get everyone fit, hopefully we can kick on a bit.”
