Maidstone United striker Levi Amatchi on scoring his first goal for the club in 1-1 draw at Yeovil Town

Levi Amantchi wasted no time making an impact after coming off the bench for Maidstone at Yeovil.

The big striker had been on the pitch only three minutes when he headed the Stones in front on Saturday.

It was his first goal for the club since his summer arrival from National North side Brackley.

And while Yeovil rescued a late point, it was a good day for Amantchi and his new side in a decent display at Huish Park.

“It’s nice to get the goal,” said Amantchi. “It’s hard coming on when the tempo of the game is so fast.

“You’ve got to adjust to it quickly and luckily I was there to get the goal.

“I kept my eye on the ball after Lamar (Reynolds) got his head to it, I connected and it went in.

“It’s disappointing not to get three points but it’s never easy away from home against a top team like Yeovil.

“I think they’ve got one of the biggest budgets in the league, so it was good to come here and show what we’re about and put our names out there.

“It’s a good point, it keeps the momentum going and we have to take that into the next game.”

Amantchi, who started his career at Chesterfield, is confident he made the right move in joining Maidstone.

There were other offers on the table after leaving play-off finalists Brackley but Stones boss George Elokobi got his man.

Amantchi said: “I’ll be honest, I had a few options but Maidstone came up and I spoke to George before coming here about the project they wanted to do.

“I was interested and I wanted to come and learn and develop as a player.

“George was honest. He told me what he wanted me to do here and it didn’t take me long to think about it. I just wanted to come.

“It’s full-time and I just want to come here and play football.”

Amantchi operated as a lone frontman at Yeovil after replacing Ogo Obi early in the second half.

It’s a role he’s had success in during his career but the striker is happy however Maidstone set up.

He said: “It’s a funny one. I don’t mind playing up front by myself but, then again, I don’t mind playing in a two.

“Probably, I got my most goals playing up front by myself but, don’t get me wrong, it is hard work up there on your own.”
