Maidstone United fixtures 2016-17 Vanarama National League

Maidstone start their National League campaign with a home game against relegated York City on Saturday, August 6 - live on BT Sport.

That's followed by away games against two more former Football League clubs, with trips to Aldershot on August 9 and Chester on August 13.

Stones host Braintree, who made last season's play-offs, on August 16, then it's a huge away game when the National South play-off winners visit ex-Championship outfit Tranmere on August 20.

Among the other highlights are a Boxing Day trip to Dover and the return home game on New Year's Day.

United meet Wrexham - their FA Cup conquerors of two seasons ago - at home on September 3, with the away game at the Racecourse on April 14.

Maidstone finish the season at home to Tranmere on April 29.

Stones boss Jay Saunders said: "Whoever we got first was going to be tough but it's nice to be at home.

"York have had a big turnover of players - they signed someone we were interested in - and they are going to be a good side.

"Jackie McNamara, the old Celtic player, is the manager there and he's brought in about 10 players.

"It's a great game for our supporters to have, against a team who have come down from League 2.

"It hits home when you reel off all these names like Aldershot, Chester and Tranmere.

"They're all ex-Football League clubs and now we know who we're playing it gives the boys something to focus on. Everyone's buzzing for it. We can't wait."
