Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders thinks blank weekend will help his side

Maidstone are more than happy to be without a game on Saturday.

With Stones out of the FA Trophy, there was potential to bring forward a league match, with Aldershot interested in moving their February 4 trip to the Gallagher.

It didn't happen and Stones, who hope to have a new signing in place, will train instead.

Boss Jay Saunders said: "I believe one club came forward, I think it was Aldershot, with a possibility of doing it but it never happened.

"I think this week not having a game will do us the world of good.

"It gives us time to get a little bit of fitness into a couple of lads that need it and hopefully get a new lad in and work with them.

"That’s what we’ve got to build towards now, the Torquay game (January 21)."
