Maidstone United forward Alex Flisher says play-off final less nerve-racking than delivering wedding speech

Taking a penalty in the play-off final is nothing compared to delivering a groom’s speech for Alex Flisher.

Maidstone favourite Flisher marries fiancee Georgina tomorrow (Saturday), a week on from the biggest moment in his football career.

Flisher stepped up for the first penalty of the shoot-out, holding his nerve with Ebbsfleet fans all around him.

He’ll be surrounded by friends and family when he ties the knot but is feeling the pressure.

Flisher, 24, said: “The play-off final is less nerve-racking than getting married!

“I’m not the best public speaker, even though it’s only a thank-you speech.

“They’re different feelings.

“With football you’ve got all the boys and the fans with you on a Saturday but this weekend it’s friends and family and it’s more about me and Georgina.”

Flisher can hardly believe his hometown club’s climb from Ryman League Division 1 South to the National League.

He added: "I don’t think it will completely sink in what we’ve achieved until we start going to places like Gateshead next season."
