Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders on Kent Senior Cup semi-final win over Bromley

Manager Jay Saunders took Maidstone's Kent Senior Cup semi-final win in his stride.

Stones' 4-2 victory over Bromley on Tuesday night set up a final against Charlton or Folkestone.

Saunders made eight changes but still named a much stronger side than the Ravens who fielded a completely different XI.

That was more through necessity than choice but Stones have a final to look forward to.

Saunders said: "I know Bromley have had a weakened side out, and we've made a lot of changes, but I thought our attacking play was good tonight and in the final third we looked a threat.

"There were lots of positives, a couple of negatives picking up injuries, but in general it's nice to get through and get into a final.

"If we'd had more people available I probably would have rested a few more but the squad is where it is so everyone who was available had to play some part.

"Bromley had some young boys in there but you can only beat what's put in front of you and if we'd come out and lost that game I'd have been very disappointed because if you look at the two sides we had a stronger side out so you'd expect to get the win.

"It's a win and we're in the final and we move on."

As well as losing Delano Sam-Yorke to a foot injury at the end, defender Dean Beckwith came off at half-time with a twinge in his groin.

The defender was sent off in the league game at Bromley last weekend but couldn't serve his one-game ban in the Kent Senior Cup.

Saunders said: "I don't get my head round that - I need to look into it.

"Apparently this game doesn't count tonight but any bookings do count.

"Try and work that out. It's a silly rule if that is the case."
