Maidstone United 2 Bath City 2 match report: Mo Faal and Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong on target as Stones twice fight back for a point

Maidstone twice came from a goal down against Bath to move back into the National League South play-off places.

Mo Faal cancelled out Cody Cooke’s opener and Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong made it 2-2 with his first Stones goal after Elliott Frear restored City’s advantage.

A draw was enough to move United up to seventh - the final play-off spot - while Bath are sixth.

The Stones were unchanged from Saturday’s 1-0 Kent derby success at Dover.

Given how heavy the pitch was at Crabble, it was testament to the Stones’ powers of recovery that George Elokobi felt able to name the same starting XI.

United announced a two-year contract extension for boss Elokobi in the afternoon and the hosts were looking to build on the feelgood factor by climbing back into the top seven.

The first half was slow to get going, though, with little of note before promotion rivals Bath took a 37th-minute lead.

Cooke was the scorer, burying the loose ball after Dan Hayfield’s header was blocked on the line by Raphe Brown.

Cooke failed to connect with a free header a matter of yards out as Bath missed a golden chance to double their lead.

They were made to rue that as Maidstone levelled in the final minute of the first half.

Jephte Tanga was the provider, with Faal turning on his cross and finding the bottom corner.

A superb goalline clearance by Reiss Greenidge to divert Hayfield’s strike over the bar stopped Bath regaining the lead in first-half injury time.

Tanga saved the day at the start of the second half, a perfectly-timed challenge to deny Frear.

Minutes later it was the hosts’ turn to threaten as Sam Corne sent Matt Rush through on goal but the Stones striker’s effort went the wrong side of the post.

Bath regained the lead in the 58th minute, however, and it was a poor one to concede with Frear unmarked at the back post to head home a cross from Ewan Clark.

Maidstone levelled for a second time five minutes later.

Tanga was the provider again, cutting the ball back to Berkeley-Agyepong whose first-time finish found the bottom corner.

George Fowler sent a header on to the roof of the Bath net, while Faal stabbed wide near the end of normal time.

Rush beat the offside trap in added time but Josey Casa-Grade tipped his effort over the bar.
