Top scorer Frannie Collin reacted to being left out by scoring his 50th Maidstone goal – and the best is yet to come.

Boss Jay Saunders made one of the toughest decisions of his four-year reign when he overlooked Collin in favour of new signing Billy Bricknell last weekend.

Collin came off the bench to complete a 2-0 victory over Hornchurch and chalk up his milestone goal after only 18 months at United.

Saunders hasn’t decided whether Collin will start when the Ryman League Premier Division leaders face mid-table Enfield at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday. Either way, he’s a huge admirer of the man who has hit the 50-goal mark at Dover, Tonbridge and now Maidstone.

Saunders said: “It’s a great achievement to get to 50 goals. He said at training it’s the quickest he’s got there.

"I told him when I signed him we’d create plenty of chances for him. He scores all sorts of goals and people forget that he’s still young. He’s only 27 – far from being over the hill.

"It was hard to leave him out last weekend. He’d been left out at Canvey the week before after he’d been ill but Frannie knows what I think of him."

Maidstone visit struggling Bury Town in a rearranged league match on Tuesday.
