Legendary Maidstone United manager John Still brings Dagenham & Redbridge to the Gallagher

Maidstone's Conference-winning manager John Still is back in town.

Still, who led Stones to the title in 1989, visits the Gallagher with Dagenham & Redbridge tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

He's previously brought the Daggers and his old club Luton along for pre-season friendlies but now it's all about National League points.

The Daggers, relegated from League 2 last season, sit fourth, while Stones are 17th.

Still, effectively forced out and replaced by Keith Peacock after winning the Conference, is guaranteed a warm welcome.

Stones boss Jay Saunders is looking forward to meeting him for the first time but is more worried about getting a response from his players after Saturday's 3-0 defeat by Woking.

Saunders said: "I’ve never spoken to John. I don’t think we’ve even said hello.

"He always used to sit upstairs when they played the friendlies but obviously he’s well known in these parts and I’m sure he’ll want to come back and put on a good performance with his team but I’m not concerned about that, my concern is getting us right.

"The lads have got to get themselves up for it. There’s a big game and I need a reaction from them.

"We’ve got to pick a team now first and foremost that’s not going to concede sloppy goals.

"That’s my biggest worry at the moment.

"People can go, ‘oh, we haven’t scored, blah, blah blah’ but last season, the previous season, we might not have been at our best going forward but we’d always be hard to beat and we’re not this season."

Maidstone could switch to a back three if Anthony Acheampong recovers from a tight hamstring.

Stones kept a clean sheet at Boreham Wood playing 3-5-2 and it's a formation Saunders wanted to use against Woking, until Acheampong was ruled out.

He said: "I’d love to play a back three. To be honest, we spoke about it at the beginning of the week, wanted to work on it and then Ach had a hamstring problem.

"We’ve not had all three centre-halves fit other than that Boreham Wood game and even Ach came off in that, so I can’t remember when we’ve had an opportunity to play it."
