Maidstone United winger Tom Wraight wants to stay at the Gallagher Stadium

Tom Wraight hopes to get the chance to stay at Maidstone and prove just how good he is.

Wraight made a rare start in the Stones' Kent Senior Cup final win over Folkestone, handed a chance up front.

Ankle and hamstring injuries have made it a difficult campaign for Wraight who arrived at the Gallagher last summer as Alex Flisher's replacement.

But boss Jay Saunders has always spoken up for the winger whose 20 goals in National South for East Thurrock earned a move to the Gallagher Stadium.

That suggests a new deal could be on the table but Wraight simply doesn't know until he's sat down with the club.

He said: "I don't see why I can't play at this level.

"It's hard to say where I've had the injuries but I feel I can give it a good go.

"I've not had a conversation yet, so we'll just have to wait and see.

"I think the main priority was to stay up and we'll go from there.

"I always want to stay, whether I get the chance I don't know.

"Jay's backed me all season to be fair and I hope I can prove a point."

Wraight scored his first Stones goal in an FA Trophy win at Torquay followed by a thumping header in the New Year's Day draw with Dover.

But he's had rotten luck with injuries and hasn't found the form that caught Saunders' eye in the first place.

Wraight said: "I'm the first one to admit I've not been in the best form.

"It's been a bad run for me personally but I always do my best to sustain my place.

"Injuries are part and parcel of football.

"You're unlucky to pick them up but I try and take my chances when I come on, even if it's 10 minutes."

Back-to-back wins have seen Maidstone secure National League safety.

They looked in trouble after losing at Solihull a fortnight ago but Wraight had no doubt they would get over the line.

He said: "Everyone knows we went on a bad run but we pulled together in the end and came out staying up.

"It's always hard when those sort of runs start.

"You do your best to get out of it but stuff doesn't go right for you.

"We got out of it in the end and we'll look at the positives from that going into next season.

"You've always got to believe. I didn't ever see us going down with the quality in the dressing room. You never look at that.

"You just want to do your best to get out of the situation and we did that and stayed up.

"Everyone knew deep down we had all that quality and we didn't deserve to be down there I don't think but a few results went against us in that run we had.

"It could have been completely different."
