Biker dies after fatal crash on the A228 Ashton Way between Kings Hill and Leybourne

A biker has died after crashing into traffic lights.

At around 6pm on Sunday evening, officers were called to the scene of the crash on the A228 Ashton Way between Kings Hill and Leybourne.

It is commonly known as the West Malling bypass and had both carriageways closed for hours as a result.

The road was closed in both directions due to the collision between Tower View in Kings Hill and the Leybourne turn-off.

A police spokesman said: “Witnesses are being sought following a fatal collision in West Malling.

“A black Suzuki motorbike was travelling along the A228 Aston Way towards Leybourne when it collided with a traffic light at a pedestrian crossing.

“The rider, a man in his 40s, sustained injuries and was confirmed deceased at the scene.

“The collision, which is being investigated by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, took place at around 5.50pm on Sunday.

The route finally reopened 11 hours later at around 5am this morning.
