A228 Ashton Way between Leybourne and Kings Hill reopens near West Malling railway station after serious crash

A bypass has reopened overnight following a serious crash.

Police were called to the scene of the collision on the A228 Ashton Way, known as the West Malling bypass, between Kings Hill and Leybourne yesterday evening.

It is understood the accident happened at about 6pm.

The road was closed in both directions due to the crash between Tower View in Kings Hill and the Leybourne turn-off.

Commenting at 7.40pm, a police spokesman said: “Officers are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the A228 Ashton Way near West Malling.

“Both carriageways are currently closed between the junctions with Tower View, Kings Hill and the A20 London Road, Leybourne.

“Motorists and those seeking to access West Malling train station from the A228, should consider alternative routes.”

As of 11pm, the road remained shut in both directions. It had reopened by 5am on Monday.
