Update: Police were called to West Malling in the early hours of Sunday, where a young woman was reported sitting on a bridge over the rail-line.

A Kent police spokesman said the 22-year-old was distressed and there were concerns for her welfare.

The incident which occurred in Church Road, between Addington and Offham, just south of the A20, was reported at 2.30am.

Police had the power to the rail-line turned off as a precaution and closed Church Road to traffic while they talked to her.

She was eventually persuaded off the bridge at 5.46am and taken to hospital, when the road was re-opened.

No train services were affected.
