Masked intruder in family's kitchen in Hillside Court, Wateringbury

A family have been left traumatised after a masked man invaded their home.

Natalie Burrows was indoors with her two daughters, Daisy 12 and Grace eight, last night.

At about 9.07pm, she got up from the lounge and went into the kitchen to find a man wearing jeans and a balaclava standing there.

Mrs Burrows, 43, screamed and threw a wine glass at him and he turned and fled.

Her screams attracted the attention of neighbours who came out in time to see the offender making off on a moped.

Her husband Mark Burrows had left their home in Hillside Court, Wateringbury, only 10 minutes or so before.

Mr Burrows, a Spurs fan, was going to watch the Spurs v Ajax match on television at his parents' home just around the corner.

As soon as she had phoned police, Mrs Burrows phoned him. He said: "I ran back and was there within a minute. The man had gone and my kind neighbours were comforting my wife."

Mr Burrows was impressed with the police response.

He said: "They were great. They sent out patrols immediately touring the area looking for the moped and even later despatched the police helicopter."

So far the offender, who was around 5ft 6in, has not been found.

The man had entered via an unlocked back door, having parked his moped outside the property.

Mr Burrows' wallet, which had been in the kitchen, was found on the drive. He said: "Fortunately there was no cash in it, so he got away with nothing.

"However it's been a big shock for my family. No-one slept very well last night and my youngest daughter has been unable to go to school today."

Anyone who saw the offender make off down Bow Road and Maidstone Road is asked to contact the police on 01622 604100, quoting reference 30-1887. Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers in Kent anonymously on 0800 555 111.
