M20 closed after serious crash near West Malling

A crash involving five cars and a motorbike closed the M20 this evening.

The accident happened on the coastbound carriageway, just before the M20 merges with the M26 near West Malling, at about 6.40pm.

The carriageway has now reopened, but the earlier closure caused long queues stretching back to junction 2.

It is not thought anyone was seriously injured in the accident, and the wrecked cars have been removed from the carriageway.

Drivers reported being stuck in stationary traffic for almost two hours in some cases.

The London-bound side of the motorway was also closed temporarily between J3 and J2, causing further delays, but two of three lanes are now open.
